Due to the advanced age of the last salt-making masters\u2014who began working in the salt pans back in the 1950s\u2014there is an urgent risk that key practical skills regarding the comprehensive restoration of salt fields will be lost forever<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"3,4\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"p-rc_2d9cff9c5031c649-132\" data-path-to-node=\"4\"><span data-path-to-node=\"4,0\">At the heart of the project is <b data-path-to-node=\"4,0\" data-index-in-node=\"31\">practical, hands-on knowledge transfer in the field<\/b><\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"4,2\">. Under the direct mentoring and guidance of two former salt-pan workers, a series of working actions will take place in the abandoned western part of the Strunjan salt pans<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"4,4\">. Alongside younger salt workers, conservationists, researchers, and local volunteers, participants will restore and re-establish functioning crystallization basins\u2014known as <b data-path-to-node=\"4,4\" data-index-in-node=\"174\">&#8220;kavedini&#8221;<\/b>\u2014from scratch<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"4,6\">. This involves traditional manual tasks such as managing water regimes and wooden sluice gates, thoroughly cleaning out sludge and shells, compacting the foundation using a traditional salt-pan roller (<i data-path-to-node=\"4,6\" data-index-in-node=\"203\">rodul<\/i>), and preparing the base for <b data-path-to-node=\"4,6\" data-index-in-node=\"238\">&#8220;petola&#8221;<\/b>, the crucial bio-layer of marine algae and microorganisms<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"4,8\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"p-rc_2d9cff9c5031c649-133\" data-path-to-node=\"5\"><span data-path-to-node=\"5,0\">The entire restoration process and authentic dialect terminology will be professionally documented, video-recorded, and photo-archived<\/span><span data-path-to-node=\"5,2\">.
