How to reach the meeting place?

The meeting point is in front of the salt house (Visitor Centre) at the Strunjan salt pans. Your guide will be waiting for you at the meeting point or, in case of delay, on the first floor of the salt house.

When travelling down the Koper-Piran main road, turn right at the roundabout in Strunjan and continue for 1.2 km along the priority road, as far as the entrance to a large parking lot near the tennis courts. The guide will be waiting at the meeting place on the right hand side of the road.

If you are arriving by car, you can leave the vehicle at the parking lot. Bus drivers, on the other hand, are required to take their vehicles back to the roundabout, where they can wait for the duration of the tour and return to the meeting place to collect you at the appointed time.

In case you are running late, please make sure to contact the guide at the phone number of the Park’s management (08/20 51 880) and inform them about your delay.

Classic Tour around the Strunjan Landscape Park

The group sets out for the Strunjan Nature Reserve down the footpath running alongside the edge of the Cliffs of Strunjan, where the guide presents the characteristics of this flysch rock formation, its flora, the protected shore below and the diversity of communities populating the various types of sea floor. From the stop at a cliff, the view opens over the entire Gulf of Trieste and on a clear day extends all the way to the Julian Alps and its highest peak, Triglav.

There follows a short visit to the Church of the Apparition of the Virgin Mary and afterwards a walk to the only Slovene marine lagoon to present the history of the latter and the peculiarities of its habitat types.

During the tour, the guide will entertain you with interesting facts about the cultural landscape and its typical scattered settlements, terraces, dry-stone walls and hedges, and explain the reasons such areas should be preserved and why alien species are not welcome here.

Equipment

Season- and weather-appropriate clothing, hiking footwear. In summer, a hat and water are recommended, too.

Guided Tours

You can sightsee and explore the park by yourselves or with a guide, individually or in a group. Guided group tours are available upon timely booking and provided for visitors who wish to walk around the park while learning about its notable natural and cultural features.

The classic guided tour of the saltpans, lagoon, the cliffs and the seashore beneath it along an approximately 4 km long trail takes a minimum of 2 hours. You can also opt for a shorter, one-hour tour along a 1.5 km long route either around the cliff area or around the Stjuža lagoon and the saltpans, the latter including a detailed explanation of the salt-making process.

In addition to the classic guided tour,we have been offering three additional tours: around the botanical, geological, geographical and underwater educational trails.
